Why?

As a society, we have a variety of challenges and in order to overcome them, it is absolutely necessary to engage with different opinions and solutions. Friction and diversity of perspectives are key to achieving the best results for everyone.

Extreme positions, ideologies and hatred

However, polarized debates represent a real danger to our social peace. They lead to alienation among one another and divide our common world.

According to a study by “More in Common Germany”, 75% of Germans perceive the public debate as increasingly hateful (Faultlines: Germany’s invisible trenches”, study 2019, More in Common Germany).

So – on the basis of our constitution – it’s not that different points of view would be a bad thing (on the contrary!), but it’s rather about the HOW of these disputes. Can we make sure that our debates are conducted constructively and respectfully, especially when solutions differ?

Wouldn’t it be great if we all stepped out of our respective bubbles to see and hear our fellow human being, and not an enemy? Not possible? We hope that together we can actually revive our social cohesion.

With respactivist we want to do exactly that – from within society.

What?

But where do we start? How do we create a climate of mutual respect, seeing the other person and listening?

The idea is simple: let’s start SMALL – with friendly, positive and kind everyday social encounters that can work as a nucleus for a wider recharge of social cohesion. Let’s recognize these small and friendly daily encounters and let’s celebrate them. These “RAmoments” as we called them, can be shared under the hastags: #respactivist#ramoment and #thedifferenceisineachofus

Together, we can attempt to create a more socially cohesive society by making a difference in the small everyday human encounters.

respactivist – the difference is in each of us.
